Interview with world traveler Shubham Mansingka

Tell us about you as a traveler. What are you most passionate about when it comes to travel, and what do you look for when planning a trip?: I usually travel solo. I always look for scenic locales and a bit of adventure. A place with solitude always appeals to me more.

Tell us about one of your best trips. Where did you travel?: My epic solo trek from Lahaul to Zanskar; I became the only Indian in all of 2015 to do so.

When did you travel there?: 8/1/2015

Tell us about the trip. Did you have a planned itinerary? What areas did you visit? What hotels did you stay at? Did you work with any tour guides or adventure companies? After somehow escaping and gathering courage, I had started solo traveling again and fulfilled one of my lifelong dreams of trekking to Zanskar from Lahaul, via the 5080 metre high Shingo La. I am proud to say that, 'Shubham Mansingka' is the only 'Indian' tourist in 2015 to have achieved this feat.
There was no planned itinerary and I only stayed in homestays. I didn't work with any tour guide or adventure companies.

Anything you would have done differently, or any advice for travelers wishing to take a trip like yours? Trust your gut and believe in yourself. Good things come to those who have magic in their heart.

How can travelers be more eco-minded when planning for and going on trips?

Travellers can be more eco-minded by opting to choose for public transport, walking to nearby places, consuming local food instead of packaged and staying in a local homestay that benefits the community rather than a hotel. I practice this all the time.
